50th Anniversary

Maverick Concert Ensemble, early 1970s Judith Chase Cotton/cotton chenille yarns, Summer & Winter weave

On the occasion of its 50th Anniversary, the Woodstock Weavers guild presented, in cooperation with the Historical Society of Woodstock, an exhibit of contemporary and vintage handwoven items, with demonstrations of weaving, at the HSW Eames House, in Woodstock. The exhibit ran from April 30 – June 12, 2022. Some items were available for sale as well.

Guild members demonstrated all aspects of weaving, from handspinning and dyeing yarn, to “dressing” a loom, weaving, and finishing. A loom was set up for weaving by the public and there were other hands-on activities over the course of seven weekends. Weaving demonstrations included a variety of looms — floor/jack, inkle, rigid heddle, backstrap, and twigs.

The Woodstock Weavers guild fosters interest in hand weaving and textile arts as exemplified by Berta Frey (1893-1972), a well-known and influential textile artist, instructor, and author. The guild meets in Kingston.

The Historical Society of Woodstock’s mission is to preserve, interpret, and share the unique history of Woodstock.
