Berta Frey

Berta Frey was an accomplished weaver, who lived in the Woodstock area when she passed away in 1972. Her initial work as an occupational therapist (woodworking) inspired her studio work, her writing, and teaching. She formed the New York Guild of Handweavers (visit NYGH History page) and she played an important role in its early years of programming and helping new weavers. She was also a founding member of the Handweavers Guild of America.

Frey was born in Texas but moved to New York after WWI.
